More than 3 lakh cars will be transported after PM Modi opened the nation's first in-plant railway siding

Today, on March 14, PM Modi officially opened India's first automobile in-plant railway siding at Suzuki Motor's Gujarat production factory. The goal of SMG's new in-plant siding is to lessen the carbon footprint of logistics, which will cut down on the use of fossil fuels and ease traffic.

Together with Maruti Suzuki India and Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development (G-RIDE), this project was completed. The in-plant railway siding would have the capacity to transport over 3 lakh automobiles per year to 15 locations throughout the nation once it is fully operational.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki said- "We are honoured to be a part of the Prime Minister's ambitious Gati Shakti program that promotes efficiency in logistics. Today is an important milestone as we become India's first automobile company to drive efficiency in logistics."

Maruti Suzuki wants to boost output at its Gujarat plant. At the plant, the automaker recently started building a fourth production line that will be operational by the 2027 fiscal year. With an investment of Rs 3,200 crore, a new assembly line will boost annual production from the current 750,000 units to over one million.

Maruti Suzuki India recently purchased the Suzuki Gujarat plant from Suzuki Motor Corporation. The business is getting ready to introduce its first electric SUV, which has also been spotted multiple times in testing, next year.
