The Ambassador car was introduced in India even before independence. In 1942, five years before independence, BM Birla founded Hindustan Motors and its assembly started at Okha Port in Gujarat. In 1948, a year after independence, its plant was set up from Gujarat to Uttar Para in Bengal.
