Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has banned 67 lakh accounts in India. WhatsApp took this action in January 2024 and this action was taken under the IT Rules 2021.

In the period from January 1 to January 31, 2024, 6,728,000 accounts were banned by WhatsApp. Before any complaints were filed, 1,358,000 of these were banned. This data is provided by WhatsApp in its monthly compliance report.

In India, WhatsApp has roughly 56 crore users. In January, WhatsApp received complaints about 14,828 accounts. This report is released by WhatsApp on a monthly basis. In India, 69 lakh accounts were banned in December 2023.

A WhatsApp account that violates policies and privacy has been banned. Accounts may be banned if they send spam or offensive messages to recipients from any account.

After the introduction of new IT rules in 2021, WhatsApp released a complaint appeal report every month. This includes complaints regarding spam, nudity etc. If you do any such activity from your WhatsApp account, your account may also be banned.
