Meta's social media platform WhatsApp banned a record of more than 74 lakh accounts in India in April 2023. The company has given this information in its monthly report published as per the Information Technology (IT) Rules 2021. This report covers data for the period April 1 to April 30, 2023.
WhatsApp has banned accounts in response to complaints received from users in India. Apart from this, WhatsApp has also taken action on some accounts regarding the Violation of Lodge and Terms of Service and the order received from the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC).
WhatsApp spokesperson said, 'As per IT Rules 2021, we have published our report for the month of April 2023. This user-safety report details the complaints received from users and the actions taken by WhatsApp. Apart from this, the report also includes the details of the preventive actions taken by WhatsApp itself to deal with the abuse on our platform.
According to the latest monthly report, WhatsApp banned more than 7.4 million accounts in the month of April. Of these, more than 2.4 million (24 lacks) accounts have been actively banned. These accounts have not been banned on the basis of complaints received from the users of the social media platform.
