Be careful while driving on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, police are keeping a close watch with 430 hi-tech cameras!

The Government of India is making every effort to reduce accidents on highways and expressways. To keep a close watch on those violating traffic rules, the administration has installed 430 cameras on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This hi-tech camera is quite advanced. It not only provides excellent visibility but also can trace vehicles traveling at high speed within a few seconds.

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is installing 430 hi-tech CCTV cameras at 106 locations along the route by mid-October. MSRDC Joint MD Sanjay Yadav said that all the cameras on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be connected to a central control room through an optical fiber network. An Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will document various traffic violations, such as over-speeding, careless driving, wrong-way driving, stopping on the motorway, changing lanes driving in the wrong lane, etc.

The system will also have a spot and average speed detection system at 39 locations and a lane discipline violation detection system at 34 locations. 130 locations on the e-way will be equipped with wrong entry detection, while variable message signs and weather monitoring systems will be installed at 23 locations and 11 locations respectively.

This system will also keep an eye on commercial vehicles. There will be weigh-in-motion systems at all entry points. An automatic vehicle counter and classifier will be installed at toll booths along with automatic number plate recognition and violation detection cameras for fine collection. Emergency vehicles like mobile surveillance vans and towing vans, ambulances, and cranes will be equipped with displays, cameras, and vehicle tracking systems.

A command and control center located in Lonavala will receive feeds from all the cameras. Officers will also be able to access the online feed. Violation challans will be generated immediately and validated with photo and video evidence by the authorities.
