Anmol Sewa Foundation Spreading Awareness on Sustainable Farming Practices Among Farmers in Punjab & Haryana
Foundation drives eco-friendly farming awareness in Punjab and Haryana farmers
At a time when agriculture is facing challenges such as declining soil health, rising input costs, water scarcity, and environmental stress, efforts to spread awareness about sustainable farming practices are becoming increasingly important. In several rural areas, Anmol Sewa Foundationhas been engaged in farmer awareness and farmer welfare work with a focus on practical and long-term agricultural methods.
The foundation, founded by Dr. Nirmal Singh and co-founded by Resham Singh , has been associated with farmer awareness initiatives for the past 15 years. This work has been carried out in collaboration with institutions such as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and the collaboration continues.
One of the key areas of focus has been awareness around avoiding stubble burning, an issue that affects both the environment and soil quality. Farmers have been encouraged to consider alternatives that are more suitable for long-term soil health.
Attention has also been given to crop diversification, with the aim of helping farmers move beyond limited cropping patterns and adopt approaches that can support soil balance and reduce risk. Alongside this, awareness has been created about water-efficient systems such as sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation, especially in regions where water use has become a major concern. Water conservation has also remained an important part of these discussions, with emphasis on using available resources carefully and promoting practices that reduce unnecessary water wastage in farming.
Other farming methods that have been discussed through these efforts include zero tillage, the use of green manure (green khaad), and reducing heavy dependence on pesticides and urea. Farmers have also been informed about the value of organic farming practices and the need for more balanced input use in agriculture.

In addition to this, awareness has also been built around the use of agricultural tools such as the rotavator and laser leveller, which can support land preparation, water management, and overall field efficiency.
With farming communities dealing with both environmental and economic pressures, such work reflects a growing emphasis on methods that protect natural resources while supporting agricultural stability. Through continued farmer awareness efforts, discussions around sustainable and practical farming methods are reaching more people at the grassroots level.
