Indian former skipper and coach Rahul Dravid is now the owner of Dublin franchise in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). ETPL had unveiled its six team franchises in an event and introduced their respective owners. The other owners include Faf Du Plessis, Steve Waugh, Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Mills, and Chris Gayle apart from Dravid.
Rahul Dravid expressed his delight at joining the ETPL, saying, "The concept of this league impressed me the most. This league can be a great platform for promoting cricket in Europe and providing opportunities for new talent. Strengthening cricket at the grassroots level and nurturing young players has always been important to him. Dublin has a strong passion for cricket, and there is immense potential for the sport's growth. I am confident that the ETPL will help give cricket a new identity in Europe in the future."
Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to play in this league. Most importantly, he will captain Rahul Dravid's team, the Dublin Guardians. This team will play against teams from Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. Ashwin has retired from international cricket and the IPL.
This league has been launched in collaboration with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association. This will be the first league in which teams from different European countries will participate. The league includes teams from Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam.
Regarding the ETPL franchise owners, the Dublin team is owned by Rahul Dravid. The Belfast franchise is owned by Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund. The Edinburgh team is managed by Kyle Mills, Nathan McCullum, and Rachel Wiseman. The Glasgow franchise is owned by Vipul Agarwal and Chris Gayle. The Amsterdam franchise is owned by Steve Waugh, Jamie Dwyer, and Tim Thomas, while the Rotterdam team is owned by Jonty Rhodes, Faf du Plessis, Glasheen, and Samir Shah.
