An important announcement has been made by the government regarding the consumers of LPG in industry and commerce. All restrictions imposed on supplying LPG cylinders for these consumers in all regions have been lifted. The supply of LPG has been increased to the level of the pre-crisis period of West Asia. This will be really helpful for industries and businesses.

Supply of bulk LPG has also increased to 50% after its complete halt during the crisis period. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, this positive trend in supply of LPG has been the result of recent changes in the supply scenario. This will greatly benefit the commercial and industrial consumers since this will decrease their operational costs. The decision will increase gas availability in the market, thereby boosting production activities and accelerating economic growth.

During the West Asia crisis, the government had issued special orders to increase domestic LPG production. These orders were issued under the Essential Commodities Act. They mandated the diversion of C3-C4 streams specifically for LPG production-streams that were otherwise used for petrochemicals and other downstream applications. This step was taken to address the domestic LPG shortage, though it had caused some difficulties for industries.

In view of the significant improvement in indigenous LPG production, the government has taken another important decision. The projected availability of imported LPG shipments has also increased substantially. The government has decided to reduce the diversion of C3-C4 streams toward LPG production. Increased allocation of C3-C4 streams for non-LPG uses will now be implemented. This will benefit other industries, such as petrochemicals, by enhancing their production capacity. This policy shift will provide momentum to the economy.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that there will be no adverse impact on the availability of domestic LPG. Total indigenous LPG production will be maintained at no less than 40,000 metric tonnes per day. It will be ensured that ordinary consumers face no inconvenience whatsoever. The government will continue to accord top priority to domestic supply. This decision will maintain market balance, and consumers will continue to receive a regular supply.
