The weather in Rajasthan is now fluctuating quite often. Though the scorching sun and the heat wave have made many suffer, there has been some respite for residents from storms, rains, and hailstones in various districts. Weathermen have warned about the coming days.
The weather in most districts of Rajasthan has undergone major changes in the past two days. Following a highly scorching sun on Monday, the weather turned cooler at night when there were thunderstorms accompanied by rains and hail. In view of the Western Disturbance, there was rainfall and hailstorm in districts like Hanumangarh, Sriganganagar, and Bikaner. In addition to that, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur, and Alwar among others faced dense clouds and dust storms with slight rains. Water foggers were also sprayed in Jaipur to provide relief from the intense afternoon heat.
A look at the weather over the past 24 hours reveals the effects of intense heat and heatwave conditions in many districts of the state. Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Bundi, Chittorgarh, and surrounding areas of Jaipur experienced intense heatwave conditions during the day. The hot winds disrupted people's daily routines, and temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in several cities.
According to the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, the weather in the state is rapidly changing. On April 28, a storm and rain alert has been issued for 11 districts, while a heatwave warning has been issued for two districts. According to the department, heatwaves and hot nights are likely in some parts of western and northeastern Rajasthan over the next 1-2 days.
The Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures could reach 44 to 45 degrees Celsius in some parts of northwestern Rajasthan. A weak western disturbance will bring a change in weather until May 1st. During this period, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds of 30 to 50 kmph, and light rain are expected in western and northern areas.
The heat wave in Rajasthan appears to be reaching its peak. Barmer was the hottest city with a temperature of 46.4°C. Jaisalmer recorded 44°C, Jodhpur and Bikaner 45°C, Kota 44.3°C, and Jaipur 41.8°C. Phalodi recorded a temperature of 38°C. The scorching sun and hot winds have disrupted normal life.
Severe heatwaves in Jaisalmer set a new record on Monday. For the first time in April, the temperature here reached 46.4 degrees Celsius, the highest ever. The previous record was 46.3 degrees Celsius on April 18, 2025, which was surpassed this time. In view of the increasing heat, school timings for students up to grade 12 in Nagaur district have been changed from 7:30 am to 12 noon. In Khairthal-Tijara district, school timings for students up to grade 8 have been changed from 7:30 am to 11:00 am.
In view of the continuously increasing heat and changing weather, the Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant, take necessary precautions, and avoid sunlight during the day.
