Digital India completes 11 years: PM Modi lists achievements, learns how this campaign has transformed India's image
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the nation with a post on the social media network X. The Digital India scheme, launched 11 years ago, has given India a new identity globally. This initiative has made the functioning of the government transparent and effective. According to PM Modi, the most successful part of the project is the convenience of digital payments and the direct transfer of money into the bank account of people through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
This initiative was launched on July 1, 2015, with the aim of increasing digitalization in the country, putting government services online and providing access to technology to all the citizens. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this scheme today is no longer a governmental project, but a solid base for the digitalization of India.
According to the Prime Minister, Digital India has made governance more transparent, faster, and citizen-centric. Many government services are now available online, significantly relieving people of long queues and paperwork.
The biggest achievement of this campaign is considered to be the launch of UPI, or Unified Payment Interface. Today, India leads the world in real-time digital payments. Approximately 49 percent of all real-time digital transactions worldwide are conducted through UPI. This has made digital payments easier, safer, and faster than ever before.
The Prime Minister stated that through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), funds from government schemes are reaching beneficiaries directly into their bank accounts. This has reduced the role of middlemen and increased transparency in government schemes.
According to the government, the expansion of optical fiber networks and the availability of affordable internet have increased the reach of digital services in villages, tier-2, and tier-3 cities. This has enabled the benefits of education, health, agriculture, business, and government services to reach remote areas.
The Prime Minister stated that Digital India has opened new opportunities for youth, startups, and innovators across the country. Today, young people from different parts of India are developing technological solutions to global problems.
Modi stated that due to the government's digital policies, India is now rapidly advancing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies. This will create new opportunities for employment, innovation, and economic growth in the future.
Prior to 2015, people faced lengthy queues, paper-based documentation processes, and limited internet facility for government services. After the advent of Digital India, there is greater availability of internet, provision of various online services, and easy government processes for the common man.
The prime minister Narendra Modi mentioned that Digital India has made the lives of the underprivileged and deprived communities better and given India a new digital identity all around the world. He stated that using technology on a scale of over a billion people is significant. In addition to this, he further stated that the government would continue to build technologies which would serve the citizens in the future.
