It is summertime, and the heat can pose a problem not only for you but also for your electric car. Lithium-ion batteries that are used in EVs are especially susceptible to high temperatures. If you wish to ensure your EV runs smoothly in the heat, you should consider following these guidelines.

Park your car in the shadow or a covered area to prevent overheating of the interior and the battery. When parking is impossible, at least use the sun protection shield for the windshield to keep the car cool.

Do not charge your EV in the heat of the day since the battery will overheat during charging in the summer period. Therefore, the best time to charge your car is at night or early in the morning when temperatures are lower.

Always charge your electric car to 100%. It's safest to keep the battery between 20% and 80% during the summer. A fully charged battery can withstand more stress in the heat.

The air inside tires expands during summer. Too much or too little air in a tire affects the car's range and can also lead to a tire burst. Be sure to check your tire pressure at least twice a month.

Most modern electric cars have a liquid cooling system that keeps the battery cool. Ensure your car's coolant level is correct. If the coolant level is low, the thermal management system will not function properly and the battery may overheat.

Instead of running the AC at full power just before driving, use the pre-conditioning feature during charging. This will cool the cabin without using the car's battery and your driving range will also remain quite good.
