IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation said Thursday that it has made former Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant a non-executive director to its board. The appointment is subject to regulatory and shareholder sanction. Kant, the chief strategist behind several large national campaigns including Make in India, Startup India, and Incredible India, recently stepped down as the G20 Sherpa of India last month.

IndiGo's Board of Directors Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said, IndiGo is happy to welcome Amitabh Kant as a board member. He has considerable experience in administrative work at the national and global level. IndiGo will greatly benefit from his leadership qualities. Mehta said that the IndiGo team can leverage his extensive experience and knowledge in achieving its goal of becoming a global company by 2030.

On his appointment, Kant said, I am delighted to join the board of IndiGo. With its scale, efficiency, and international ambition, IndiGo will open up new markets for India. It will transform our airports into global hubs of connectivity and commerce. It will connect people, markets, and opportunities across borders, boosting tourism, trade, and investment.

During his tenure at Niti Aayog, Kant held several key roles. These include the role of director on the board of the National Highways Authority of India and member of the National Statistical Commission of India.
