It is very expensive to construct an ordinary road anywhere in the world. It requires proper material and the work of many engineers to complete it. Have you ever wondered in which country the most expensive road in the world is constructed? Perhaps, you can think that it is located in countries such as Japan, Singapore, China, or America. However, the truth is that the most expensive road is in Uganda.

The Entebbe–Kampala Expressway, also known as the "Kampala-Entebbe Expressway" or "Entebbe-Kampala Highway," located in Uganda, a low-income developing country, is the world's most expensive road. Located in the central region of Uganda, it is a four-lane toll highway.

According to media reports, the construction of this highway cost a whopping $476 million (₹4581 crore in today's terms). The cost per kilometer is a staggering $9.2 million (₹885 crore).

The Entebbe–Kampala Expressway is 51 km long. Construction began in 2012, and its completion was completed in 2018. It's worth noting that the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway has 19 flyovers and bridges, totaling 2,770 meters in length.

It also carries the Nambigirwa Bridge, which, at over 1,400 meters long, is the longest four-lane bridge in Uganda and East Africa.

The Ugandan government entered into an agreement with China, under which China's Exim Bank provided a loan of up to $350 million for the expressway's construction, with a repayment period of forty years. The remaining $126 million was provided by the Ugandan government.

The Entebbe-Kampala Expressway was constructed by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). According to the expressway's project manager, the expressway, designed and built to Chinese standards, brings experience and technology to Uganda for future road projects.
