Rajasthan Royals, who won the championship in 2008, are embroiled in controversy as well. The team's manager, Romi Bhinder, got caught by the media a few days back using his mobile phone inside the dugout. On the other hand, their captain, Riyan Parag, has recently been caught using vape in the changing room. As a punishment for this act, BCCI has fined him 25% of his match fee along with demerit points.
Rajasthan Royals' head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, is quite annoyed with his team as they continue facing trouble. "None of this helps our cause," he said. Additionally, he mentioned that Rajasthan Royals took the vaping case seriously. The question now arises as to whether the franchise will take any further action against Riyan Parag.
In a press conference before the match against the Delhi Capitals, Kumar Sangakkara said, "Such controversies are not at all positive for the team. All I can say is that both the BCCI and the franchise have discussed these issues in detail. This is a reminder to all players that they must maintain a positive and professional team environment."
An official statement issued by the IPL stated that Riyan Parag was found to have violated Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which falls under the category of "conduct contrary to the spirit of the game." The incident occurred inside the dressing room during the second innings of the match. Riyan Parag has accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma.
The BCCI has given a clear message that options are also being considered to take more stringent steps to maintain discipline among the team, officials and players, so that the reputation of the IPL is maintained.
