An Indian-origin mother, 58, has been sentenced to prison in Singapore. The woman has been accused of assaulting a government official. The woman is named Shanthi Krishnasamy and has previously been convicted after trial of charges of voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant and using criminal force on a public servant.
The woman attacked the recruitment inspector of the Central Manpower Base. In fact, the woman's son had failed to report for National Service (NS) and the officer had gone to the woman's house regarding this. The woman has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison on 25 August for assaulting a government official.
According to a report in The Straits Times newspaper, District Judge Christopher Goh was interrupted several times while sentencing the woman. The judge, while giving his verdict, said that he agreed with the prosecution. The crimes being committed against public servants are not right. The injuries on the body revealed that the victim was grabbed and dragged several times during the incident.
Despite being stopped several times, Shanti continued with her outrageous acts. Shanti is not remorseful nor does he try to apologize. Instead, he continued to hurt the inspectors. Shanti has appealed against his sentence, according to state court records. The mother claimed that she had still not received the information she had sought from the Defense Ministry regarding her son's recruitment.
