MoRTH has initiated the 'Clean Toilet Picture Challenge' campaign. Travelers can get rewarded with prizes for playing the role of digital sleuths and reporting photos of any untidy toilet or other issues. Simultaneously, NHAI has announced April 10 as the deadline to digitize all toll collections.

As per MoRTH, uploading pictures of dirty toilets on Highwayatra's app will earn ₹1,000 FASTag credit. From April 10, there will be no cash transactions for toll payments at toll plazas. Only FASTag and UPI will accept toll payments. It is important to highlight that there is a fine on UPI payments.

The Ministry has decided to enlist the help of travelers to maintain cleanliness on highways. If a traveler notices a dirty toilet at a toll plaza, they should take a photo and upload it to the HighwayYatra app. If the photo is verified as correct, they will receive a FASTag credit of ₹1,000 in their account as a reward.

NHAI has banned cash transactions to promote Digital India. Cash payments will no longer be accepted at toll plazas from April 10, 2026. Furthermore, if you make a payment using UPI on a FASTag, you may incur a penalty of up to 0.25% of the principal amount.

The government has also implemented new rules regarding toll concessions and passes. Private vehicles will no longer receive toll exemptions based on government identification cards. Furthermore, toll-free entry will only be available to vehicles equipped with officially exempted FASTags.

An Exempted FASTAG is a special type of toll tag. It is issued to vehicles exempt from toll tax under the National Highway Tax Rules, 2008, in India. This tag is primarily for government vehicles, ambulances, fire engines, and VVIPs. These vehicles don't need to stop at toll plazas.
