According to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari, Maruti Suzuki would launch a flex-fuel vehicle in an environment day celebration in Delhi in 2025.
This implies that Maruti Suzuki would introduce its flex-fuel vehicle that uses ethanol blend fuels, particularly E-100 fuel, at an environmental day celebration in Delhi on June 5, 2025.
It is worth noting that currently, there is no production of any flex-fuel four-wheelers in India. The newly launched flex-fuel vehicle by Maruti Suzuki will be the first four-wheel flex-fuel vehicle in India. It will use special storage tanks, delivery systems, and engine components.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki E100 flex-fuel vehicle features several modifications over the E85 prototype to make it compatible with E100 fuel. Ethanol has a higher moisture absorption capacity. Higher ethanol concentrations require specially designed fuel systems and engine parts, as ethanol absorbs moisture more readily than conventional petrol.
According to Nitin Gadkari, this effort to increase the ethanol content in our fuel will lead to low-cost, pollution-free, and indigenous fuel production and supply. Amidst global energy security concerns and fluctuating crude oil prices, this move will also reduce India's dependence on crude oil imports.
He further stated that a total of 12 companies, including Toyota, Tata, Mahindra, and Suzuki, have already showcased such vehicles. Honda and Suzuki have also introduced flex-fuel two-wheelers. He expressed his enthusiasm for the growing adoption of EVs across all segments, including scooters, cars, trucks, buses, and tractors.
India has standardized E20 petrol, and the BIS has released specifications for E22, E25, E27, and E30 fuels, preparing for the next phase of ethanol blending.
