Google now wants to introduce a chat search function on its Android version of the Gemini app. As per a screenshot posted on social media, users can now search for past chats by simply typing keywords. Google has this feature already on iOS and web but did not include it on Android until now, even though Google has not officially announced this roll-out.

Reddit user u/JosefTor7 posted a screenshot of this feature on the r/Bard group, where a search bar with "Search for chats" was visible. The search bar was located within the hamburger menu on the top left side.

However, Amar Ujala's team could not trace this feature in the app. It is believed that Google is rolling it out in a phased manner and it may be available to all Android users in a few weeks. A user wrote in a Reddit post, "This was not listed in the app update notes, perhaps it has been quietly added through a server side update."

Gemini users had been demanding this search bar for a long time. Earlier, to find old chats, users had to scroll and search in the side panel in the web or iOS version. Now, with the help of this new search bar, users can easily search old conversations by typing keywords or phrases. This search bar will not only match the words, but will also be able to understand the sentiment and meaning of the user's search; this is called semantic search.
