Amazon Video Recaps has arrived as a new AI-powered feature for the video streaming platform. It aims to give the viewer an AI-generated video summary, with major plot points, characters, key moments, and dialogue from the previous season, along with voiceover narration. According to Amazon, Video Recaps will act as a refresher for viewers when a new season of the show is launched. Text-based summaries, known as X-Ray Recaps, are already available on the streaming service. The new video recap feature is now available in beta in the US.
The US-based tech giant has introduced a new feature for its video streaming platform, dubbed Amazon Video Recaps. These include AI-generated video recaps of show seasons that viewers have already watched. As soon as a new season of a particular show is released, users will have the ability to refresh the storyline, plot points, and characters on Prime Video. Currently in beta, Amazon Video Recaps is available for select English-language Amazon Original shows in the US.
For now, users can watch video recaps of shows like Fallout, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Upload, Bosch, and The Rig. Furthermore, it's only available for customers' living room devices. However, the company plans to release it for other devices in the coming months. Amazon Video Recaps will bring "synchronized voice narration, dialogue snippets, and music" to give viewers a visual summary before watching a new season of a show.
It builds on Amazon's X-Ray Recaps, which also provides AI-generated summaries of previously streamed shows, without spoilers. The text-based summaries highlight key story points and cliffhangers that viewers should know before starting. Video Recaps and X-Ray Recaps buttons will appear on the detail pages for supported Amazon Original shows.
Explaining how Amazon Video Recaps works, the company said that the feature will analyze key plot points, most significant moments, and characters from the previous season and create videos with a generative AI model. The AI model will then find the "most interesting" video clips, combine them with audio effects, dialogue, and music, and then combine them with AI-generated voiceover narration to create a video recap.
