Traditional virgin coconut oil—the single ingredient

Meet this homegrown brand from Kerala called Pūrvīṇa run by a mother-daughter duo. Their bestseller is what they call Hot-Processed Virgin Coconut Oil, which is traditionally known as Ventha Velichenna/ Urukku Velichenna in Malayalam. Fresh coconut milk is heated in a bronze vessel for hours together, with continuous stirring, to get this deliciously nutty oil.

This oil is the only ingredient in their baby oil packages of 100 ml and 250 ml. If you apply a few drops on your baby’s skin after a bath, you’ll never want to switch to anything else. The oil is not greasy, does not stain clothes and sheets, and gets quickly absorbed into the skin. It can also be used as a hair oil (before bath) and as a raw garnish to weaning foods.
