Eetika Kapoor’s My Dear Sensei: A Whimsical Tribute to Teachers in a Debut Fantasy Anthology

Kapoor, who hails from Varanasi and was shaped by her eight-year stint at Mussoorie’s Oak Grove School, reflects on how her upbringing and education laid the foundation for her multifaceted creativity. Her academic pursuits at Indraprastha College for Women and the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai further fueled her passion for storytelling.

Reflecting on her journey, Kapoor shares, “It feels surreal and magical. To have something in your head for so long and then see it out on the stands in front of you? Dedication and hard work pay off. But for me, this is just the beginning of a beginning.”

Kapoor’s journey was not without its challenges. At the tender age of nineteen, she tragically lost her parents, thrusting her into a world of uncertainty. Yet, with the unwavering support of her Maasi, Pushpa Mehra, and her cousins, she found the courage to pursue her dreams. She credits her teachers at Sunbeam Varuna School for nurturing her love for writing and journalism, which eventually led to the creation of My Dear Sensei.

Beyond her literary pursuits, Kapoor finds joy in music, karaoke, and fostering a community of book lovers in Delhi. Her eclectic interests, ranging from exploring museums to savoring diverse cuisines, enrich her storytelling with a unique depth and richness.

Looking ahead, Kapoor is eager to explore new creative horizons, including speculative fiction, historical fiction, and storytelling through illustrations. She promises readers an ever-expanding universe of imagination to delve into.

In words of encouragement to aspiring writers, Kapoor also advises, “Don’t feel threatened. There is more than enough for everybody. Traditional or self-publishing, if your story has mettle, you will find a way to make it sell well.”
