In the Sonitpur district of Assam on Saturday, a wild elephant attacked and killed three people, including two forest guards. Another person was injured. This information came from a forest officer.
West Tezpur divisional forest officer Nipen Kalita said that while the forest personnel was patrolling the area, a wild elephant strayed from the nearby Dhekiajuli forest entered Dhirai Majuli village, and trampled three people to death on the spot, while forest officials said. Another employee was injured.
The deceased have been identified as forest guards Koleshwar Boro and Biren Rawa and the local man has been identified as Jatin Tanti, he said. He said that the injured person Dibakar Malakar has been admitted to the hospital and his condition is said to be critical. He said that efforts are on to push the elephant back into the forest.
