WhastApp in the spotlight once again! This time the issue is around a privacy tool that provides more flexibility for the user to decide on the duration of the message appearance. According to the report from WaBetaInfo, there are plans to develop a tool where the messages will disappear on their own after the recipient finishes reading them.
At present, the feature is still under development and can be found in the latest Android beta trains. Users may be aware of the feature called “disappearing messages,” which allows the message to disappear after certain durations, namely 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.
Initial details suggest that this 'After Read' feature could have multiple time options, ranging from as short as a few minutes to as long as several hours. This will allow users to customize the message's sensitivity and visibility as needed.
It's also being said that this feature will work in conjunction with the existing Disappearing Messages system. While the old Disappearing Messages feature started a countdown immediately after a message is sent, this new option will only trigger when the receiver sees the message. This means that unread messages will remain safe until they are opened, and the countdown to deletion will only begin after they are opened.
According to reports, the company is also working on an updated interface to make these settings even easier. Users will be able to apply this feature to all chats at once or enable it for select conversations.
It's worth noting that this feature isn't available to the public yet. It's reportedly rolling out to beta testers first and will reach general users through future updates in the coming weeks. It's also possible that this feature won't be rolled out to the public after testing.
