Now Instagram has officially started supporting photos with an aspect ratio, i.e. 3:4 ratio. This is the same format that is the default of most smartphone cameras; that is, now users will not need to crop photos before posting them on Instagram.
Till now, Instagram only supported photos of 5:4 and 1:1 (square) ratio, but now, when you upload a 3:4 ratio photo in a single post or carousel, it will appear in the same format as you took it. The announcement was made by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri in a post on Threads.
He wrote: “Now if you upload a 3:4 image, it will look exactly as you took it.” Most photos taken with smartphones are in a 3:4 ratio. Earlier, these had to be cropped to upload on Instagram. Now you will be able to upload photos directly without any cutting or quality loss.
This feature will work in both single photo posts and carousel posts. An example has also been shared on Instagram's broadcast channel showing how much more information is present in a 3:4 image compared to a cropped 4:5 image.
