The standards for green hydrogen were issued by the government on Saturday and its definition also includes electrolysis and biomass-based methods. It is considered a major step in the National Green Hydrogen Mission. With this, India has joined the select few countries that have set the standard for green hydrogen.

It was said by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy that this is an essential step in the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The government has issued the Green Hydrogen Standard.

It was further informed that the standards of green hydrogen standard have been fixed by the government, on the basis of which it will be decided whether the hydrogen produced is green or not. Electrolysis-based and biomass-based hydrogen production methods are also included in the definition of the Green Hydrogen Standard.

The green hydrogen standard has been decided by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy after holding consultations with all stakeholders. Its well-to-gate emissions should not exceed 2 kg CO2 /H2 per kg.

The notification detailing the measurement, reporting, monitoring, on-site verification, and certification of green hydrogen and its derivatives will be issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Under the Ministry of Power, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has been made the nodal agency for monitoring, verification, and certification of green hydrogen production projects. With the introduction of the green hydrogen standard, the industry will also get more clarity about the emission norms.
