Thailand's Supreme Court sentenced the country's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to eight years in prison. Thaksin Shinawatra returned home on Tuesday (22 August) after years of self-exile abroad. Thaksin made a brief public appearance at Bangkok International Airport on Tuesday morning to greet supporters and the media after arriving on a private jet with his family.
The Supreme Court found Thaksin guilty of three separate counts of abuse of power and malfeasance. Apart from this, he has illegally ordered a public sector bank to issue foreign loans and illegally held 'shares' through his nominees. Thaksin was first taken to the Supreme Court as soon as he returned home on Tuesday.
