On Tueaday, in a case related to giving jobs in exchange for money the Supreme Court sought a response from the ED on the bail plea of former Bengal Education Minister and MLA Partha Chatterjee. A bench of Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan and Justice Suryakant gave this direction.
In July 2022, the ED arrested Partha in connection with the West Bengal School Service Commission teacher recruitment scam. The ED had recovered over Rs 21 crore cash from the house of an associate of Partha. In the case of Trinamool Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh, arrested by ED on January 21 in the same case, the apex court has directed the special court in Kolkata to decide on his bail plea expeditiously.
The apex court also issued a notice to the investigating agency on Ghosh's plea and adjourned the hearing of the case till October 17. By filing a petition, the Trinamool Congress leader has alleged at the apex court that his bail plea will be heard by the new judge despite the fact that his plea was largely heard by the earlier judge.
