Shein back in India
Shein is making a quiet comeback in India after being boycotted for more than a year. And the Indians are ecstatic. On July 13, internet users began to see banner adverts on Amazon. Shein was mentioned as one of its "Prime Day launches " for the sale on July 26-27.
Shein was a success in India until June 2020, when it was banned, along with a slew of other Chinese apps, due to tensions along the country's border. Orders on Shein's own website have been suspended in India for more than a year.
Shein's choice to go on Amazon has impacts on its partners and competitors. The ban last year wasn't the first time Shein had run into difficulties in India. After being detected undervaluing garments to avoid customs fees, the Chinese fashion e-commerce site faced a brief shutdown in the country in July 2019.
