In the Indian Premier League (IPL), after the 11th over of the second match, the ball will be permitted to be replaced to tackle the impact of dew during the night match. The move was made after a meeting with captains from all 10 teams on Thursday ahead of the IPL beginning on Saturday. On-field umpires will decide on a request for a second ball change at their discretion.

This provision has been made only for evening matches, not for afternoon matches. If the bowling team does not want to change the ball after the 11th over in the second innings, then in such a situation a new ball will not be used. Till now, the umpires had the right to decide whether to change the ball or not. The umpires used to make a decision in this regard when they felt that the ball had become very wet due to dew.

The ball to be replaced after the 11th over will have the same wear and tear as the old ball. The important thing is that the umpires will choose this ball and the bowling team will not be able to register an objection in this regard. The possible disadvantage for the bowling team in this could be that if the replaced ball is harder than the old ball, then it will become easier to score runs.
