Google announced the rollout of Personal Intelligence for Gemini in India last Monday. Personal Intelligence increases the number of capabilities possessed by the AI assistant through context and enhanced app integration. It was first introduced in the United States earlier this year. The new Personal Intelligence function enables Gemini to interact with selected Google apps and utilize data gathered from them to provide precise and detailed responses.

The Personal Intelligence function allows for linking the Gemini AI assistant with Google apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search. Once enabled, the AI assistant draws data from these platforms to respond to queries that require insights drawn from multiple sources.

The company explained in a blog post that this feature is optional and turned off by default. Users have the right to decide which apps they want to link.

To explain how Personal Intelligence works, Google provided an example of creating a travel plan for Jaipur. If a user asks Gemini about their travel plans, the assistant can pull booking confirmations from Gmail, pull relevant images like saved maps or notes from Photos, and even suggest places based on recently watched YouTube videos. More importantly, all of this happens in a single response.

According to the tech giant, Personal Intelligence is designed to gather information from multiple sources and extract specific details. It uses both capabilities together to provide answers. The company also states that Gemini can cite the source of the information, and users can ask further questions for more clarification.

The company stated that connected data is only used to answer questions and is not directly used to train the AI model. Users can turn off this feature at any time, or use a temporary chat without personalization. However, Google acknowledged that Personal Intelligence is still under development and can sometimes provide inaccurate or overly personalized responses. There may be occasions when Gemini misunderstands the context, such as misinterpreting a user's preferences. Users can correct this directly during the conversation and provide feedback using the 'thumbs-down' option.

Personal Intelligence is being rolled out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra customers in India, with wider availability expected in the coming weeks. To turn on this feature, users can go to the Gemini app, go to Settings > Personal Intelligence and select the apps they want to connect.
