Marta Kostyuk defeated four-time champion Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday to make her way to the women’s singles quarter-finals at the French Open for the very first time, putting an end to Swiatek’s celebration.

Kostyuk is yet to drop a game on clay this year. Prior to this match, she had lost in three matches against Swiatek without winning even a single set against the former World No. 1.

At 25 years old, Swiatek celebrated her birthday on Sunday; however, the Polish player was not able to defend her title after she suffered defeat in two sets to her opponent and was knocked out of the French Open tournament, which she won back in 2024. However, since then, the Pole failed to win another clay-court title.

Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea, who intends to retire from tennis after this year's season, advanced to the quarter-final of the Roland Garros with a victory over China’s Wang Xiyu 6-3, 7-6 (4).
