Punjab Kings were required to chase down a huge total against Delhi Capitals and they managed to do just that in an impressive victory. While Punjab have not lost a single match in IPL 2026 till date, coach Ricky Ponting is still not satisfied despite the victory. In Saturday’s clash, the batting side DC posted 264 while PBKS chased it down with seven balls remaining.

Following the victory, Ponting praised his captain Iyer for his batting. According to Ponting, before coming in to bat, he told Iyer that if he remained at the crease until the end of the innings, then his side will definitely triumph. Iyer did manage to remain and helped his side create history.

Praising Shreyas, he said, "He's a wonderful person. That's why I tried to include him in the team at the auction. I knew he would be a great captain and help build the team. I knew if he stayed at the crease until the end, we would win the match. I went to the pitch and told him, 'If you play until the end, we'll win the match.' He did just that."

Ponting also praised openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. He said, "The pair of Prabhsimran and Priyansh is truly amazing. They understand each other well. They hit shots all around the field. I'm like a teacher to them, and the good thing is that they both listen to me. They're doing their jobs very well."

Punjab's head coach further said, "It is great to set the record for the biggest run chase. However, to achieve such a record run chase, we have to concede a lot of runs in bowling. Therefore, we need to improve our fielding and bowling."
