The Indian team is currently on a tour of Sri Lanka where it is playing a three-match T20 series. After this series, both the teams will play the ODI series. In this format, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and veteran batsman Virat Kohli have reached Colombo for the three-match ODI series.
BCCI has opted to keep separate teams for both ODIs and T20s. Players from the ODI team also cater to several players in the T20 team, and the ODI players reside at the Colombo ITC Ratnadeepa Hotel. Apart from Rohit and Virat, there are Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and Harshit Rana.
The T20 series is yet to conclude. In such a situation, the team's new head coach will be Gautam Gambhir with the T20 team. Former India player Abhishek Nair has been made assistant coach of the team and responsibility has been given to Finn. Cricbuzz has reported in its report that Nair left for Colombo on Monday morning. The rest of the members of the team will join Rohit-Virat after the third T20 match on Tuesday. The T20 team is already in Pallekele and will proceed to Colombo.
India's T20 team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. The team's eyes are set on winning the third match and winning the series 3-0. August 2 will see the first of the one-day matches being played. August 4 will witness the play of the second one. And August 7 sees the playing of the third and final ODI match. All the matches will be at R Premadasa Stadium.
