The government has so far purchased 256.31 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in the central pool in Rabi marketing season 2025-26. This is a rise of 24.78 percent over last year's 205.41 lakh metric tonnes. The main states whose procurement is ongoing in this phase are Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Increased wheat procurement is taking place in Uttar Pradesh this year compared to last year. So far, a total of 7.55 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured, much more than last time when only 5.88 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was procured. As much as 103.89 lakh metric tonnes has been procured in Punjab, 67.57 LMT in Madhya Pradesh, and 65.67 LMT in Haryana. As much as 11.44 LMT has been procured in Rajasthan. Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra mentioned that much time is still remaining in this Rabi marketing season. This time around wheat procurement in the country's central pool is likely to exceed last time by a substantial difference. Herein farmers are getting paid in a period of 24 to 48 hours.
