The central government on Monday extended the tenure of RBI Deputy Governor M Rajeshwar Rao by one year. News agency PTI has given this information. Sources told PTI that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal to appoint the deputy governor for a period of one year.

He said that the next term of Deputy Governor M Rajeshwar Rao will start from October 9 this year. It is known that Rao was appointed Deputy Governor of RBI for three years for the first time in October 2020. Before this, he was the Executive Director of RBI.

Rao, who is a graduate in Economics and a post-graduate in Business Administration from Cochin University, has been associated with the central bank since 1984. It is known that as a central banker, he has experience in many aspects of the functioning of RBI. M Rajeshwar Rao has also worked as the Banking Ombudsman in New Delhi and in the regional offices of the Reserve Bank in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and the national capital.
