Rajasthan has been gripped by an intense heatwave, even before the onset of Nautapa. Temperatures in western Rajasthan are consistently approaching 46 degrees Celsius, while the Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow heatwave alerts in 19 districts today. The effects of the intense heatwave are expected to worsen over the next two to four days.
Dust storms and light rain occurred in several districts, including Jaipur, on Saturday, but this did not provide relief from the heat. Jaisalmer was the hottest city in the state, with a maximum temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius. Phalodi and Barmer were also particularly affected by the heat wave.
According to weather experts, the UV index will remain extremely high in the coming days. The intense sunlight and ultraviolet radiation can increase the risk of eye irritation, skin problems, and dehydration. People have been advised to avoid direct sunlight during the afternoon.
Light rain and hailstorms were reported in some parts of Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Alwar, Tonk and Sawai Madhopur on Saturday but the temperature did not drop much and humidity and hot winds continued throughout the day.
After a day of intense sunshine and a heat wave in Jaipur, the weather changed in the afternoon. Dust storms blew and drizzle occurred in some areas, but the maximum temperature rose to 42.6 degrees.
Severe heat also persisted in Ajmer, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, while the western districts experienced more severe conditions.
The Meteorological Center, Jaipur, has warned that the effects of a severe heatwave may continue for the next few days in several districts of western Rajasthan. At the same time, heat wave and “warm night” conditions are likely to persist in the eastern and northern districts also.
