Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Seychelles. On this tour, Modi is going to meet Jonathan, the world's oldest living land animal. He will visit the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens and will plant a tree there.

The visit comes amid various activities marking 50 years of India-Seychelles diplomatic relations. Prime Minister Modi has been invited as the 'Guest of Honor' for Seychelles National Day celebrations and will engage in discussions with the Seychelles leadership.

Jonathan is a giant tortoise from Seychelles who was born in 1832. That makes him 194 years old. Guinness World Records has certified Jonathan as the oldest living land animal in the world.

In his 194 years, Jonathan has been an eye-witness to many historical events, seen passing of many generations and seen many things happen in this world. Though he is such an old man, Jonathan is in great health due to the veterinarians that have maintained his good health for a long time.

Although cataracts have impaired his vision and reduced his sense of smell, Jonathan remains healthy and active and remains one of the main attractions of Seychelles. His longevity makes him an interesting subject of study for scientists researching aging and longevity.

One of Prime Minister Modi's key engagements during his visit to Seychelles will be a visit to the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens. In addition to meeting Jonathan, he will also participate in a tree-planting ceremony to highlight the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between India and Seychelles in the areas of maritime security, the blue economy, climate resilience, and capacity building.

Prime Minister Modi's visit comes just ahead of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. While attending the Seychelles National Day celebrations, he is expected to hold a number of discussions on cooperation in strategic, economic, and development-related areas.
