IND vs AUS 5th Test: History created at Sydney Cricket Ground, nearly 50-year-old record broken

The fifth Test match being played between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been recorded in the golden pages of history. In fact, on the first day of this match, the highest-ever attendance was recorded at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), with a record-breaking 47,566 spectators present in the stadium. At tea time in the match, 47,566 spectators were present at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This is the largest attendance in Sydney for cricket since January 1976. On the attendance of a record number of cricket fans, Cricket Australia posted on X, “Records are constantly being broken. More than 45,000 spectators came through the gates of Sydney Cricket Ground on the first day.” Even before the massive crowd in Sydney, another record was set in the series when the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) hosted its largest-ever crowd during the third Test. By lunchtime on the first day, 45,465 spectators had turned up at the Sydney Cricket Ground, surpassing the previous record of 44,901 set during the India-Australia series in 2003-04. Cricket Australia highlighted the historic significance of the crowd turnout and said that this was the highest cricket fan attendance for a Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in nearly 50 years since 1976. Most interestingly, the match is on the verge of breaking the all-time record of 1,89,989 cricket fans attendance over 5 days. This record was recorded during former Australian cricketer Steve Waugh's last Test match against India in January 2004. On the opening day of the 5th Test in Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia bowled India out for only 185 runs on Friday. For Australia, apart from Scott Boland's 4-31, Mitchell Starc picked off 3-49 wickets and captain Pat Cummins took two wickets. The fast bowlers of Australia bowled well as they took as many as 9 wickets for their team. Spinner Nathan Lyon pocketed one wicket. In reply, Australia has managed to score 9 runs by losing one wicket till stumps. Australia's 19-year-old opener Sam Constas, who is playing his second Test match, is at the crease. Rishabh Pant remained India's highest scorer on the first day with 40 runs off 98 balls, laced with three fours and a six. Apart from Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja played 26 runs, Shubman Gill scored 20 runs, Virat Kohli scored 17 runs, Washington Sundar scored 14 runs, Prasidh Krishna scored 3 runs while captain Jaspreet Bumrah contributed 22 runs. Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed after scoring 10 runs whereas KL Rahul contributed 4 runs.
