There has been an increase in the number of electric cars in India; however, many citizens are unaware of their workings. A video is going viral of an electric car receiving a fine, and we will discuss the details below.

The police typically intervene in cases of rule-breaking in traffic. However, at times, fines are issued irrespective of faults. The same scenario has occurred in Nagaur, Rajasthan, where an electric car has received a fine for not carrying a pollution check certificate.

The video, which was uploaded to social media on April 8, 2026, captures a Tata Tiago EV receiving a fine for not possessing a PUC. The vehicle owner protests to the police officer, asking why the vehicle is subject to a pollution certificate, citing it as an EV. The police officer responds by stating that he operates according to his own knowledge, and that's why the vehicle was challaned. However, we have not verified this video.

In India, electric vehicles do not require a PUC certificate. This is because electric vehicles lack exhaust and are less polluting than vehicles with engines.

Many times, even traffic police are unaware that electric vehicles do not require a PUC. This lack of awareness has led to numerous challans being issued for such vehicles across the country.
