Ben Duckett was dismissed after scoring 149 runs in the 54.3rd over. During this century innings, he faced 170 balls and scored 149 runs with 21 fours and 1 six. In such a situation, Joe Root and Ben Stokes increased the worry lines on the foreheads of the Indian players by sharing 49 runs in 77 balls for the 5th wicket. Ben Stokes was dismissed after scoring 33 runs. After Ben Stokes was out, Joe Root not only hit the 66th half-century of his Test career but also along with Jamie Smith, took the team's score to 373 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 82 overs and gave the team victory. Jamie Smith returned unbeaten after scoring 44 runs with 4 fours and 2 sixes in 55 balls, while Joe Root remained not out after scoring 53 runs with 6 fours in 84 balls. After losing the toss, India batted first and after scoring 471 runs in the first innings, restricted England to a score of 465 and took a slight lead of 6 runs. In the second innings, India scored 364 runs and gave England a target of 371 runs to win the first Test, which England achieved by scoring 373 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the second innings.
